NutriUnited Raises €8.5M Seed Round to Support Growth of Artisan Food Brands Across Europe
Munich‑based foodtech startup NutriUnited has successfully closed a €8.5 million seed funding round as it seeks to strengthen and expand its network of family‑run artisan food producers across Europe. The financing, announced in late 2025, brings together a diverse group of experienced entrepreneurs and industry leaders who share the company’s mission of preserving craftsmanship and long‑term viability for medium‑sized food businesses.
Founded in 2024 by serial entrepreneur Josef Brunner, NutriUnited was created to serve as a “home” for family‑run food companies, offering strategic support, shared resources, and a platform for sustainable growth. The company focuses on the acquisition, development, and connection of artisan‑oriented food brands, particularly in categories such as meat, meat alternatives, and ready‑to‑eat meals. NutriUnited’s buy‑and‑build strategy is designed to help family businesses remain competitive and preserve their unique identity while benefiting from integration into a larger, supportive group that enhances operational capabilities.
The €8.5 million seed round drew participation from prominent angel investors and seasoned executives with backgrounds in food, technology, communications, and buy‑and‑build ventures. Among the contributors were Martina Pfeifer, former executive at flatexDegiro; Tim Stracke, co‑founder of car marketplace Chrono24; Oliver Merkel, formerly of grocery delivery startup Flink; Christof Wahl of G‑FUND; Marc Müller, formerly of ETL Group; Frank Dopheide of human unlimited; Arnd Hungerberg, tech executive with ServiceNow; Finn Wentzler of Atlantis Ventures; Leon Mann of Direkt Gruppe; Dr. Hadi Saleh of CeramTec; and Timo Seggelmann of OakHorizon.
The investor group brings a blend of strategic insight and operational experience to NutriUnited, with many backing the startup not only financially but also through active engagement and mentorship. Several investors emphasized their belief in the company’s approach to blending tradition with innovation and creating value for both consumers and small‑to‑medium‑sized enterprises. Their participation reflects growing interest in business models that support succession solutions and resilience for artisan‑focused food companies in an increasingly competitive market.
NutriUnited’s current portfolio includes companies such as Grasmehr and Morawitzky, which together employ more than 140 people. Morawitzky, for example, is a long‑standing family producer of sausage and ham near Cologne with deep regional roots. Rather than centralize operations under a single corporate identity, NutriUnited aims to maintain the distinct character of each business while offering shared services, operational support, and access to a broader network of resources. The strategy underscores the company’s commitment to preserving quality, authenticity, and local value creation for the brands it integrates.
CEO Josef Brunner, whose upbringing in a family bakery motivates his focus on food and traditional producers, described NutriUnited’s ethos as distinctly anti‑corporate. He has emphasized that even as the company scales, it intends to remain agile, closely connected to customers, and grounded in entrepreneurship and craftsmanship. For Brunner, the mission is deeply personal: he wants to ensure the future of medium‑sized artisan food producers by offering financial stability along with strategic and operational support that could otherwise be out of reach for standalone family businesses.
The newly raised capital will be used to accelerate NutriUnited’s buy‑and‑build expansion, integrating additional companies into its group and reinforcing the competitiveness of existing portfolio members. The company believes that this growth strategy not only strengthens individual businesses but also helps secure succession solutions for family‑run manufacturers that might otherwise struggle with generational transitions or market pressures.
By building a network that preserves artisanal heritage while fostering modern operational capability, NutriUnited positions itself as a unique force in the European food industry. Its focus on maintaining the identity and craftsmanship of family businesses — coupled with strategic investment support — aims to demonstrate that growth and quality can coexist. With a strong investor base and a clear mission, NutriUnited enters 2026 poised to expand its reach and deepen its impact on the region’s artisan food sector.
