Reflex Aerospace Secures €50M Series A to Accelerate Sovereign Satellite Manufacturing in Europe
Reflex Aerospace, the German satellite manufacturer focused on high-performance, sovereign space infrastructure, has closed a €50 million Series A funding round, marking one of the most significant early-stage investments in Europe’s New Space sector to date. The financing underscores strong investor confidence in the company’s strategy to speed up satellite manufacturing and deliver mission-ready platforms for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and communications applications.
The Series A round was led by Human Element, a venture capital firm known for backing transformative technology companies, alongside participation from Alpine Space Ventures, Bayern Kapital, High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), and Renovatio Financial Investments, among other German and European investors. These backers bring a mix of space tech expertise, early-stage investment experience, and strategic industry relationships that are expected to support Reflex Aerospace’s next phase of growth.
Reflex Aerospace plans to use the new capital to accelerate the development, production, and deployment of its next-generation satellite platforms, which are designed to address critical gaps in Europe’s sovereign space capabilities. The company’s vision centres on providing robust constellations that deliver optical imaging, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Space Domain Awareness (SDA), and Signal Intelligence (SIGINT) capabilities to government, defense, and commercial customers, with a goal of having fully operational systems demonstrated in orbit by 2027.
The magnitude of the Series A funding reflects both the increasing geopolitical urgency around space infrastructure and the recognition of Reflex’s manufacturing-centric approach. Traditional satellite production has often been slow and costly; Reflex Aerospace’s model emphasises rapid design, modular integration, and flexible production methods aimed at significantly shortening lead times and increasing responsiveness to mission demands.
Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Berlin and Munich, Reflex Aerospace has quickly established itself as a pioneer in mission-specific satellite manufacturing. The company’s first remote sensing satellite reached orbit in January 2025, showcasing its ability to deliver high-performance hardware at pace. Its ongoing development of the Praetora platform — a modular satellite architecture built for rapid reconfiguration — is now central to its plan to deploy sovereign constellations that support a range of strategic objectives across Europe and allied markets.
Support from lead investor Human Element and the other participants in this Series A round is aimed at facilitating expansion of Reflex’s manufacturing capacity in Bavaria, where the company already operates a “MicroFactory” capable of producing satellites more efficiently than traditional space contractors. With these enhanced manufacturing capabilities, Reflex expects to increase output and play a key role in supplying nations and organisations seeking independent access to critical space-based data.
The company’s funding success comes at a time when European governments and institutions are pushing forward ambitious defence and space security initiatives. Germany, for instance, has committed tens of billions of euros toward space-related defence projects through 2030, emphasising the strategic role of satellite networks in national security and resilience. The European Union is also planning initiatives such as the European Space Shield, aiming to safeguard European space assets and reduce reliance on external providers.
Reflex’s mission aligns with these broader policy trends by offering technologies that enhance Europe’s strategic autonomy. CEO Walter Ballheimer has emphasised the need for sovereign space capabilities in the face of global instability and increasing demand for real-time geospatial intelligence. By leveraging modern manufacturing techniques, Reflex seeks to deliver responsive, resilient satellite solutions that can meet the evolving requirements of both defence and commercial operators.
Long before its Series A success, Reflex Aerospace had already begun building momentum. In its initial seed financing round, the company raised approximately €7 million, with early backing from Alpine Space Ventures, HTGF, and a family office with aerospace interests. That seed support helped establish Reflex’s production base and double its workforce, laying the groundwork for subsequent scaling and product development.
Reflex’s strategy includes not only expanding its own capabilities but also fostering partnerships and collaborations across the space ecosystem. In 2024, Reflex signed a letter of intent with Sidus Space, a U.S.–based satellite provider, to explore joint satellite development efforts — moves that illustrate the company’s growing international footprint even as it remains rooted in European strategic technology objectives.
With its Series A financing secured and a clear path toward scaling manufacturing and deploying operational constellations, Reflex Aerospace is poised to be a central player in Europe’s sovereign space infrastructure. The combination of robust investor backing, a differentiated manufacturing model, and alignment with major defence and policy priorities positions the company to contribute significantly to the evolving landscape of global space technology.
